Acclaimed winemakers Anna Matzinger & Michael Davies established the Matzinger Davies Wine Company with the intention of crafting wines with a resonant voice speaking to their geographic origin, varietal typicity and season. Authenticity, vibrancy and integrity should be their calling cards.
"Our intent is to craft wines reflective of where they are grown and to nurture their expression of place. We are intrigued by the challenge of listening, responding and collaborating on the interpretation and the dynamics between these things keeps us captivated. We hope you will be captivated too."
-Anna & Michael
We’ve spent many years making wine separately in exceptional cellars both internationally and for the last two decades mastering our craft in Oregon. Matzinger Davies is an opportunity for us to collaborate creatively on a pursuit of our own. Our focus is small lot AVA based Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley and single site Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache from the Columbia River Gorge. Michael is currently Executive Winemaker for both REXHILL and AtoZ Wineworks in Newberg, Oregon and Anna consults in winemaking after a long and successful tenure as winemaker & co-GM for Archery Summit in the Dundee Hills.
Our Dundee Hills Pinot Noir comes from the iconic Weber Vineyard planted by Vivian & Arthur Weber beginning in 197 6 in the heart of the Dundee Hills. Fermented in a wooden open top tank this wine is cherry and plum, sassafras and violet pastille. Palate is expansive and diaphanous with tannins supple like velvet.
Our Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir comes from two small family farms, each less than 2 acres and both at nearly 700 feet in elevation. After several seasons working with the Wheelers and Hudsons, and the opportunity to learn about their sites, the fruit they produce and their families, we grow more enamored with their uniqueness each vintage, and love lacing them together as they combine to form a substantive and articulate expression of the Eola-Amity Hills.
Sourced from Chehalem Mountain Vineyard located on a lovely little hillock between a southern knuckle of the Chehalem Mountains proper and its sub-AVA Ribbon Ridge. Here soil is marine sedimentary and slope south-facing at 450 feet. Clonal selections is old Wente and 76 both tried and true expressions of Oregon chardonnay. The site’s provenance is its adjacency to the spot where Dick Erath planted his first Chardonnay in 1974.
Our ‘Gorgeous Savvy’ Sauvignon Blanc comes from Garnier Vineyard just outside the town of Mosier, Oregon on the banks of the mighty Columbia River in the Columbia Gorge AVA. The soil here is shallow sandy loam with numerous basalt protrusions throughout the vineyard. Sunny, wind-blown and visually dramatic this site produces wines that are as vivid and striking as their environs.
2015 Grenache - $42
Generous, vibrant and pure, our 2014 Grenache comes from Garnier Vineyard just outside of Mosier, Oregon on the banks of the mighty Columbia River in the Columbia Gorge. Wrought by the work of this regions dramatic geologic history, the soil here is a shallow sandy loam with basalt protrusions and produces lively, energetic wines with distinction and personality.
All it takes is a taste or two to know what they've captured in those bottles. Each one has its own special tale to tell. In the process, they frame the narrative of the story of how this couple came together to ultimately create such enological gems."

Garnier Vineyard - Sauvignon Blanc & Grenache
Garnier Vineyard sits just east of Mosier, Oregon on the southern bank of the Columbia River in the beautiful Columbia Gorge. Volcanic eruptions, ancient basalt flows and glacial floods have left a dramatic geology characterized by weathered rock & lean soils. Vines are planted on the river terraces in sandy loam amongst numerous basalt protrusions and surrounded by pear & cherry orchards as well as pine forests transitioning to oaks and grasslands. The fruit benefits from abundant sunshine & breezes that dominate here and result in wines that are vivid, vibrant and subtly saline.
Poco Vineyard - Pinot Noir
Situated at the Northern end of the Eola Hills, Poco Vineyard sits hilltop at 700ft with a very gentle north westward slope. The vineyard has been meticulously farmed for over 20 years by the Hudson family and sits adjacent to their beautiful home, gardens and solar array. Soil here is volcanically derived (Jory) and produces incredibly expressive Pinot Noir with great purity of fruit, bright acidity and plush, succulent tannins.
Three Trees Vineyard - Pinot Noir
Three Trees Vineyard is perched at 700 feet in the Amity Hills with a commanding view southwest towards the Van Duzer Corridor, the gap in the coast range through which cooling winds and weather shape the climate here. It is a hilltop refuge created by the Wheeler family who have built their home & lives here over the last 20 years. They bring an intimate sense stewardship and care to their farming and a deep understanding of place. The soil here is volcanically derived (Nekia) that is shallow and rocky and results in wines of brightness, tension, brambly fruit notes and earth.
Chehalem Mountain Vineyard - Chardonnay
After several years trialing Chardonnay from different vineyards and AVAs within the Willamette Valley we narrowed our focus to the Chehalem Mountains and specifically Chehalem Mountain Vineyard. This site is a series of gentle benches between the southern knuckle of the Chehalem Mountains and Ribbon Ridge. Soil here is marine sedimentary with a gentle south-facing slope at 450 feet in elevation. Clonal selection is old Wente and 76, both tried and true expressions of Oregon chardonnay. The site’s provenance is its adjacency to the spot where Oregon wine pioneer Dick Erath first planted Chardonnay in 1974.
"Internationally experienced Anna Matzinger couldn't hide her light under a basket press if she wanted to, and proves to be as savvy, inquisitive and insightful in her perspectives on late 20th century wine history as she is on matters viticultural and vinifactory."
- David Schildknecht, the Wine Advocate
"This clean, crisp, and citrusy creation from power couple Anna Matzinger (longtime winemaker at legendary Archery Summit) and Michael Davies (New Zealand-born winemaker at A to Z and REXHILL) sips like a dream, with herbal notes and fresh minerality." 2012 Gorgeous Savvy
- Oregon's 50 Best Wines, Portland Monthly Magazine
"Winemaker Anna Matzinger doesn't make wine. What she does with these delicate Pinot Noir grapes is more like gently coax them into revealing deeper, subtler version of themselves that she – and, one imagines, they – always knew where there."
